The Metropolitan Golf Association

The Metropolitan Golf Association, founded in 1897, is a non-profit service organization in the truest sense of the word, dedicated to serving its member clubs and golfers throughout the Metropolitan Area. Today, the Association offers its members a broad scope of services and programs designed to help promote the game.
The Editorial

Since 1983, The Met Golfer, the award-winning official publication of the Metropolitan Golf Association, has positioned itself as the nation’s top regional golf magazine. Managed by the MGA’s editorial board, led by Gene Bernstein, Tony Wimpfheimer and Les Schupak, The Met Golfer is published five times each year and is free to all members of MGA private and public member clubs.

The Met Golfer is written specifically for the Met Area golfer and concentrates on local events, news, people and issues in the local golfing community. Regular features include articles on MGA championships, clubs & courses, instruction, equipment, the Rules of Golf, and golf travel destinations.
The Audience

The Met Golfer reaches avid, upscale golfers from New York City, Westchester, the Hudson Valley, Long Island, New Jersey as far south as Princeton and Monmouth County, and Fairfield County in Connecticut. Each issue is delivered by mail to the homes of today’s 140,000 MGA members. Additional copies are distributed through the more than 350 private and public member club facilities of the MGA. The Met Golfer reaches more golfers in the area than any other national or local golf magazine published, with superior demographics and low duplication.
Digital Assets

The Metropolitan Golf Association offers multiple digital advertising solutions for advertisers seeking ways to reach its 140,000 upscale core golfers electronically. The association’s website, mgagolf.org, its bi-weekly e-Revision Newsletters, the new mgagolf.org weather center and MetGolfer.org allow advertisers multiple ways to reach New York Metro-based golfers through interactive formats.
Championships

Conducting regional championships was one of the reasons the MGA was founded, and tournaments continue to be one of the association’s most important functions. Operating under the highest standards of play and competing over quality courses (including some of the best in the world), the MGA now conducts 17 championships, with the crown jewels being the Met Open, Met Amateur, Met Junior, and Ike Championship. MGA championships are contested by players of all levels, from the area’s top professionals and amateurs to juniors to mid-handicap golfers who compete in the popular Men’s and Women’s Net Team Championships. The MGA also administers 18 local or sectional qualifying rounds each year for USGA national championships.
The MGA Foundation

The MGA’s charitable Foundation was established in 1992 to “build a foundation for the future of golf” through innovative programs that reach out to young people from all cultures and economic backgrounds. Through The First Tee of Metropolitan New York, GOLFWORKS internships, junior clinics, caddie academies and junior tournaments, the MGA Foundation provides opportunities for youngsters to experience golf and integrate the game into their lives. In addition to the youth-targeted programs, the MGA Foundation also conducts regular seminars on everything from legislative issues to course maintenance to handicapping and the Rules. These events provide club leaders and operators with the tools and information they need to keep their courses and clubs healthy and thriving, and keep their members informed.
